it’s time…

… to get back into the blogosphere.

Hello again, long-lost Tumblr.

I’m back! And hopefully here to stay for a while.

chocolate cake.

Mmmm yes please.

I’m watching the debate,

and it occurs to me that if you took the very best traits from each of the Republican candidates — Ron Paul’s integrity, Newt Gingrich’s guile, Mitt Romney’s looks, Rick Perry’s swagger, Michelle Bachmann’s vagina, and Rick Santorum’s tie — and then combined them into one über-Republican candidate, that asshole still couldn’t beat Obama.

I take comfort in that.

midterm exams…

… suck all over the world.

In Paris, feeling like school should be a breeze compared to my normally crazy USC schedule. NOPE. Midterms still happen all at once, and it still turns into a stressful, sleepless week that seems to never end. Two papers and two exams down, one more left tomorrow morning. SO CLOSE.

Keeping my eye on the prize… a week off from school, going to Morocco and Italy!!

the FOMO.

This weekend was a long one for all my friends at school stateside, many of whom also happen to have the week off for fall break. While my best home friends were back in our small, rural NYC suburb, and my SoCal-based sailing team was sailing down-county out of a Rye yacht club, and my sorority sisters were getting all dolled up for some exciting sorority event, I was here in Paris.

I know, sounds like such a hardship for me, right?! Well, frankly speaking I had an incredible Parisian weekend consisting of great friends, great locations, and great times, yet somehow, come Sunday night when I see the Facebook photos and status updates and tweets of all my American friends, all those great experiences are momentarily forgotten and I become overwhelmed with the FOMO.

The FOMO or the fear of missing out is one that commonly plagues the Facebook generation, most notably college girls, when they see all the really great things their friends are doing elsewhere, and want to somehow magically be in 10 places at once.

While I let the FOMO get me for a few moments as I recapped the weekends of my friends, afterwards, all the great things I’d done flooded back into my brain and I was able to see the reality: Yes, you’ve got great friends who do great things and it’s only natural to want to be apart of it. But, YOU are great, and YOU go great things, and you’ve only got one life to live so it might as well be your own.

And right now, that life is in Paris, and it does not get much better than this.

a note about the internet.

If you spend any sort of time with me at all, you know that I spend a lot of time on the internet. “What could you possibly do to fill up all that time?” friends and classmates often ask. While yes, I spend time on Facebook stalking my friends, on jcrew.com and rugby.com pining away for additions to my wardrobe I can’t afford, and of course on hulu keeping up with my inexplicable addictions to more TV shows than I care to admit, I like to think that a lot of time I spend sitting in front of my highly used and highly personalized MacBookPro is relatively productive and worthwhile.

I really like Twitter. It has totally changed my approach to keeping up with news media and is a way to quickly and efficient scope out interesting and relavent articles to keep myself in the know. By following something like 20 different news sources, I think I’m getting a pretty well-rounded overview of the current events.

I also really like blogs. I would by no means consider myself a blog connoisseur, but I know that there are a few blogs/bloggers I read every day and highly respect in their particular genres…
